WHEELCHAIR CURLERS VIE FOR WORLD CHAMPS SELECTION AT EURO SUPER LEAGUE

British Curling’s leading wheelchair curlers will once again compete with some of the best in Europe at the National Curling Academy (NCA) in Stirling as they finalise preparations for the forthcoming World Championships in the latest round of Euro Super League action (19-21 January).

Meggan Dawson-Farrell, Gregor Ewan, Gary Logan and Hugh Nibloe will form Scotland’s starting line-up in the team event against the Czech Republic, Norway and Sweden.

Meanwhile, seven others will take part in  domestic mixed doubles training with squad newcomer Keith Gray, who only took up the sport last year, joining Charlotte McKenna, Robert McPherson, Gary Smith and Martin Sutherland in representing Scotland, while England’s Karen Aspey and Stewart Pimblett are also taking part in the mixed doubles.

Paralympic Head Coach Sheila Swan will, however, take the opportunity across the weekend to rotate players between the two competitions in weighing up options ahead of this year’s World Championships.

“This is our last competitive outing ahead of the Worlds, so it is an important opportunity for everyone to put their hands up for selection, competing against top class opposition,” said Swan.

This year’s World Wheelchair Curling Championships will see the team event take place from March 2-9 and the mixed doubles from March 10-16 at the Gangneung Curling Centre, South Korea, the venue for the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics as well as this year’s Winter Youth Olympics which get underway tomorrow.Link to the draw.
