Despite suffering a heavy semi-final defeat Scotland’s Team Morrison remain in determined mood at the Le Gruyere European Championships as they keep their focus on their principal target for the week.
Rebecca Morrison, Gina Aitken, Sophie Sinclair and Sophie Jackson had set out in Ostersund aiming to bring back a medal from their first major championship together and as tough as it was to take their 11-3 defeat at the hands of Denmark, who had topped the seedings after the round-robin stage, they know that remains within reach.
They now face Italy who were beaten by reigning world champions Switzerland in the other semi-final, in the bronze medal match and skip Morrison was philosophical as she reflected on their semi-final setback, but made it clear that they will give their all in their final match at the event.
“The Danish team played brilliantly out there,” she said.
“They didn’t miss much and were just really clinical, so at the end of the day they deserved that win there and I wish them the best of luck in the final.
“Our goal this week is to medal, though, so we’re not out of sight of that yet and we’re just really focusing on getting that bronze tomorrow now.
“Of course it’s disappointing to miss out on the gold medal match, but we’re super keen for this bronze medal game.
“It would be great to finish our week on a high by winning that, so we’re looking to go out there and just string some shots together and put on a really clinical performance.”
The European Championships qualify teams for next year’s World Curling Championships with the women’s event (LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2023) also taking place in Sweden in March (18-26 March) and the men’s event (BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men’s Curling Championship) in Ottawa in April (1-9 April).
