Scotland’s women suffered a second successive two loss day at the BKT Tires World Women’s Curling Championships in Nova Scotia, but with more than half their round-robin matches still to play they know they still have scope to climb the table ahead of the play-offs.
In their opening match of the day against Denmark it was close early on, but a three at the fourth end gave Madeline Dupont’s 2022 European champions the upper hand and when they then followed that with a steal of two to move 6-1 ahead, they were in complete control at the halfway stage.
They duly ran out 9-2 winners, leaving Rebecca Morrison, Jen Dodds, Sophie Sinclair and Sophie Jackson to re-group ahead of their meeting with Sweden’s 2018 Olympic Champions Team Hasselborg, but they struggled from the outset in that encounter, failing to score at any of the first four ends as they fell 7-0 behind on their way to an 8-1 defeat.
“We are really disappointed with today,” skip Morrison admitted.
“We just got off to a bad start in both games and couldn’t get things going, so ended up facing a lot of tough ends.
“We are catching teams that are performing well, but equally we are not at our best so we can’t really put that down to that.
“We just need to take some responsibility and play a bit better as well.”
Their first game of day four is against Korea, who have won three of their first four matches, before they take on Estonia who, like Scotland, have won just one of their five matches so far.
“There are still plenty of winnable games left if we keep pushing away and playing better and we are looking to come out and get two wins tomorrow,” said Morrison..
“We’re going to get some rest tonight and will come out fighting again tomorrow.”
