Scotland skip Orrin Carson has acknowledged that his team probably needs to win every remaining match to stay in contention for the play-offs at the World Junior Championships in Finland.
However following their narrow 7-5 loss to last year’s beaten finalists Germany, the eighteen year old skip - who led team mates Logan Carson, Archie Hyslop and Charlie Gibb to a bronze medal at that event where they were making their debut at this level a year ago - believes they are playing well enough to get those results.
“The game against Germany was really good and both teams were playing to a really high standard,” said Carson.
“I think apart from the three in the second end for them both teams were very evenly matched and to be honest it was a game that could have gone either way.
“We have been coming from behind a few times this week and I always believe we can make good chances with hammer and that is what I tried to do and we got a few twos and capitalised on a few mistakes.
“It was a good test today and if we keep playing like that we will be giving ourselves chances in every single remaining game and hopefully we can come out on top in the rest of them and see where we go from there.”
The men face another two game day tomorrow, meeting New Zealand in the morning who are on the hunt for their first win and play Switzerland later in the day.
“We have New Zealand next and we have never played them before so I think it will be tough like every other game, every team here is good so we will treat them with the same respect and hopefully we will come out on top,” he said.
“I think it really is a must win approach from here on out and we will take it one game at a time and see where we go.”
In the women’s event Team Munro had an excellent start beating Canada 7-6 in the morning and battled hard in their match later in the day to get level with Sweden by the ninth end, but eventually lost out 6-10 to move to a 2W-3L record. They meet Switzerland on day four of the championships.
The competition takes place in Lohja from February 17 to 24.
