Another powerhouse performance against Turkey saw Eve Muirhead and Bobby Lammie guarantee themselves top spot in Group B, allowing them to avoid the first round of play-off matches as they maintained their status as the only unbeaten team at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships in Geneva.
Performing superbly from the off with both players hitting the button in the pre-match draw shot challenge, they duly scored a two at the opening end, then followed that with two steals of two, forcing the Turkish pair to take their powerplay early, ahead of the midway break.
That only resulted in another steal of three for the Scots to put them 9-0 up at the interval and the final score was 10-2 after they completed the required minimum of six ends.
“That was another good win this morning,” said Muirhead.
“We kept a lot of good momentum and consistency and really did get on top of the ice early.”
While they had needed to make some adjustments the previous day after the stones were rubbed, as is commonplace in mid-competition, she believes they are now fully accustomed to the conditions.
“I think the stones have settled down a little bit and the ice is good, so you can play a lot of good curling out there and we’re just looking to keep it going to the later stages,” said Muirhead.
While second-placed Canada could potentially match Scotland’s record, since they have lost just one match so far, the Olympic champion skip is determined to head into the play-offs in winning form.
“That’s us guaranteed a semi-final spot, but we want to have another good game against Spain tonight and then have some good prep before we play that semi-final match tomorrow evening,” she said.
