Just days after it was announced that they will represent Scotland at the Le Gruyere AOP European Curling Championships in Finland later this month, Team Morrison showed their mettle with a late comeback to claim victory in Canada at the Stu Sells Halifax 1824 Classic.
Rebecca Morrison, Jen Dodds, Sophie Sinclair and Sophie Jackson looked all but out of it against the host town's previously unbeaten Team Black in the final in Halifax, Nova Scotia when they conceded a two at the sixth end and then a steal at the seventh to drop 5-2 behind.
However a three at the eighth took the match into an extra end where the Scottish quartet claimed a steal to take the title against the team that had squeezed out their compatriots Team Henderson 6-4 with a steal of two at the final end of their semi-final.
“We have had a lot of fun at this competition, and the ice has been really good here so it has been good to get some good throws in and just feel really good going to the Europeans," said skip Morrison.
"It has been a great event, with great organisation and we can’t thank them enough for what has been a brilliant event overall."
The way they recovered from a difficult situation epitomised the way Team Morrison had performed throughout a competition in which they lost their opening match, but then went unbeaten thereafter to top their pool before registering an 8-4 win over Canada's Team Quillian in the semis.
“We had a brilliant finish, we just didn’t come out as sharp as we have done in some games, but we knew we had it in us as we have been playing so well over the last four or five games so we just kept fighting," said Morrison.
"Some really clutch shots in the last few ends got us there and across the finish line today so we are really feeling good.
"It is great to go into the Europeans with some confidence and we would like to come out firing the way we have all week here in a couple of weeks time in Finland."
Another British Curling Olympic programme team narrowly missed out on a title win on the other side of the Atlantic when Kyle and Craig Waddell, Mark Taylor and Gavin Barr battled their way to the final of the Swiss Cup in Basel, only to miss out 6-4 to Czechia's Team Klima at an extra end in the final.
