Two-time Olympian Lauren Gray has decided to leave the British Curling programme after an impressive career spanning more than a decade at the top of the game.
A gold medallist at the World and European Championships as well as at the World Juniors, European Youth Olympics and World University Games, Gray also won an Olympic medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics when she was an alternate for the Team GB line-up of Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Claire Hamilton which claimed bronze in Sochi.
The 30-year-old from Glasgow joined Team Muirhead full time in May 2016 winning bronze that year at the Europeans and bronze at the World Champs the following year ahead of making her second appearance at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, where they narrowly missed out in the bronze medal game.
“We are sorry that Lauren has decided to call time on her career at British Curling which has included five World and five European Championship campaigns as well as two Winter Olympics, but we want to congratulate her for the successes she has enjoyed as a member of the British Curling programme and to thank her for her efforts,” said British Curling’s Executive Performance Director Nigel Holl.
“She has been an integral figure in Scotland and Team GB campaigns and has made a major contribution to those, as well as away from the ice in commentary roles covering wheelchair curling for Channel 4 at the 2014 Paralympics and more recently covering domestic championships in Scotland.
“Everyone at British Curling wishes her every success in her future career and we very much hope that she will continue to contribute to our sport in the years to come.”
