Team GB suffered a first defeat on the second day of play at the Mixed Team event at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Korea, but then responded well to register a victory over Canada which keeps them in contention for the play-offs.
Having won a close encounter with Denmark on the opening day, their 7-4 loss to a German quartet who had lost their opener had the potential to be unnerving, particularly when their next opponents were from a nation that traditionally goes into every international tournament among the favourites.
However, even after falling 2-0 behind after three ends, Logan Carson, Tia Laurie, Archie Hyslop and Holly Burke re-grouped well to charge into the lead against Canada with a three at the fourth, before stealing at the fifth, then managing the second half of the game well to run out 6-3 winners.
"The match against Germany was a close game and we definitely had a few chances, but just couldn't execute them when needed to,” skip Carson said afterwards.
"Team morale was still good, though, since we knew what we needed to do to improve, and we certainly did that tonight against Canada.
"We actually controlled the first half of that match, I thought, but just weren't clinical enough when finishing ends.
“I managed to play two good ones at the fourth, though, which definitely gave us the boost to push through and win the game.”
Since he regularly operates as vice skip to older brother Orrin in their two-time Scottish Junior Championship winning line-up which claimed bronze at last year’s World Junior Championships, Carson has had to adapt to calling the shots, but feels he is settling into the role.
“I feel more and more comfortable as a skip the more games we play,” he said.
“It's a change for me of course but I'm loving it and I feel like I'm performing well so far.”
The all-Scottish quartet now face the host nation in their only match of the third day and Carson is looking forward to the added attention that will bring.
"Korea are a tough team to beat, especially with such a crowd behind them, but I'm excited that we're on the livestream for it so everyone else can enjoy it too.
“We definitely feel ready and in a good position to face them tomorrow.”
