AITKEN AND ANDREWS CONTINUE NEW YEAR PREPARATIONS IN CANADA

Sochi silver medallist Scott Andrews and Scottish Mixed Doubles Champion Gina Aitken started their new year in Canada and are back on the campaign trail this weekend at the Brantford Mixed Doubles Cashspiel, which gets underway tomorrow (10-12 January 2020).

“We now have two events left before the Scottish Championships at the end of February and we know that the field at the nationals this year will be very strong, so we need to be at our best to come out on top that week,” said Andrews.

“It is a long season and we have worked our schedule around peaking for the end of February.

“This weekend the event has a very international feel to it, with teams from China, Australia, Switzerland, South Korea, USA and Canada. We are looking to get off to a strong start and with the event being played at two clubs, it is important for us to adjust to the ice conditions as quickly as we can.”

Aitken, who claimed her fifth Scottish Mixed Doubles title last year, acknowledges how important it is to be as well prepared as possible.

“The standard of competition out here in Brantford is very high, which is great preparation for the Scottish Championships next month,” she said.

“We are looking forward to getting back on ice after last weekend and a chance to get the edge over some of the teams we played in Banff in our first event of 2020.”
