Team Jackson has given itself another confidence boost ahead of contesting the forthcoming World Junior B Play-downs with victory in the Prague Junior Women’s Cup.

The quartet of Sophie Jackson, Naomi Brown, Mili Smith and Sophie Sinclair beat Team Gauchat of Switzerland 7-4 in the final to secure the title.

“We are really happy with our result this weekend as we had a few tough games and stuck together to grind out the wins,” said Jackson.

“We’re also pleased with the way we are playing in the run up to our B Division play-off in a couple of weeks. It’s great to see our hard work from pre-season paying off with regards to results so far this season.”

Jackson is skipping a new-look team this season that will seek, through that Play-down competition which sees them face a rink skipped by Karina Aitken over the best-of-five matches at Braehead from November 11 to 13, to qualify for next year’s B Division World Championships in Sweden.

Meanwhile Bruce Mouat, who led his rink to the men’s World Junior Championship title last season, put in another impressive performance in partnership with Aitken’s older sister Gina in the new Olympic discipline, when they reached the knockout stages of the CCT Geising Mixed Doubles Cup in Germany.

They got there with a 100 per cent record in four pool matches, but were beaten 8-2 in the quarter-finals by Russia’s world champions Anastasia Bryzgolova and Alexander Krushelnitsky.
