MOUAT AND MUIRHEAD REACH SEMI FINALS AT SEASON ENDING CHAMPIONS CUP

Posted on

Scotland’s representatives both reached the semi finals at the Grand Slam of Curling (GSOC) Champions Cup, in Calgary in their last competitive outing of the season.

European Champions Team Muirhead beat Anna Hasselborg’s Olympic Champions 4-3 in the quarter finals, before taking on former World Champions Team Homan, losing out to them 9-6.

Bruce Mouat’s Boost National Champions beat Canadian rink Team McEwen 7-6 at an extra end to set up a semi final against  four time World Champion Glenn Howard, who had coached Team Muirhead through their PyeongChang Olympic campaign.

Howard’s men were trailing the Scots, who had claimed a two at the first and a steal of two at the next. However, Howard’s experience prevailed when they secured a four at the third end to level the score and another four at the fifth to see them leading for the first time in the game and a single steal at the next saw them in to the all Canadian men’s final against World silver medallists Team Gushue. The women’s final is also an all Canadian affair, with Homan’s quartet taking on Kerri Einarson’s rink.
