SCOTLAND’S WOMEN JOINT TOP OF STANDINGS AT EURO CHAMPS

Posted on

Two time former winner Eve Muirhead skipped Scotland’s women to their fourth consecutive victory, beating Switzerland’s world champions before suffering their first loss, to Sweden’s Olympic and European champions at the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships in Sweden.

“It was a day of two halves,” said Team Muirhead’s second Jen Dodds, reflecting on the two game day.

“Obviously beating Switzerland this morning, who are current world champs is never going to be an easy game, but we really battled hard after losing a three at the first end and then just kept going, getting two’s and forcing one’s and that is how we got on top of that game.”

Next up was Sweden’s Olympic and reigning European Champions Team Hasselborg and the Scots were leading 4-3 by the sixth end, until the Swedish rink claimed a four at the eighth and another at the penultimate end to seal their victory.

“Sweden again was another good game, just a couple of slack shots and we were struggling after that, but we know what we need to do next time,” said Dodds.

"At this stage after today’s games with Switzerland and Sweden, we are happy with our four and one record .There is still a lot of curling to go and we still have four games in the round robin and each one is going to be tough, so we have to keep bringing the same intensity into each game.”

Scotland’s women play Germany tomorrow.
