TEAM PATERSON MOVE TO TOP OF STANDINGS WITH HOSTS SWEDEN ON DAY 1

Posted on

Team Paterson made the perfect start to their Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships campaign with two victories on the opening day of the competition in Helsingborg.

Opening up against the Norwegian rink skipped by former world champion Thomas Ulsrud, the Scottish quartet of Ross Paterson, Kyle Waddell, Duncan Menzies and Michael Goodfellow took charge with a three at the opening end and steadily increased that advantage in running out 10-4 winners.

Seeking to defend the title won for Scotland last year by their domestic rivals Team Mouat, they followed that up with another commanding performance against Team Retornaz, scoring at the first three ends to open up a 4-0 lead and maintaining control throughout, despite a late rally by the Italians which allowed them to close the gap to 7-5.

Paterson’s men are top of the rankings alongside the host nation’s representatives Team Edin, whose four year reign as European champions was ended in last year’s final by Bruce Mouat’s rink.
